When I was just shy of two years old, my parents uprooted their lives in Argentina and brought my family to the United States. Coming with big hopes for my future but very little money, college was never a definite possibility for me. Having this background gave me a dedication to my education from the very beginning. Throughout my time in school I have worked hard simply trying to get the grades and experience that could lead me to a better future. In my secondary education I expanded my extracurricular activities and began to take on leadership roles that I never imagined I would be a part of. Here I found a desire for public service and I found that I wanted to use what I learned to make an impact on my community. This is really where my love of public leadership began, and why I chose to be a part of Public Leadership College Park Scholars. In this program I have learned an immense amount, not only about public leadership but also myself. I have learned interpersonal and teamwork skills that have benefited me in all aspects of my life, including work and other classes. While I have already gained so much knowledge and experience, there is still more that I want to get out of my time at the University of Maryland and in Scholars. I hope to gain more insight into what it means to work in a professional setting and to lead a large group of people to a common goal. While this has been looked at extensively throughout my time in the program, I want to use the rest of my time at the University to apply these concepts through internships, teaching assistantships, and research.
